UpTogether believes every person is an expert in their own life. But too many systems in our society have been set up to prevent hardworking people from getting ahead.
That’s because in the U.S., there is a broadly held stereotype that if you’re experiencing poverty or financial hardship, it’s solely your fault. After all, others have “pulled themselves up by their bootstraps” and you can too.
UpTogether knows that’s not true. Poverty is a policy choice. That’s why starting in 2023, we renewed our focus on a bold goal of changing systems and policies so all people in the United States are seen and invested in for their strengths, and able to build power, reinforce their autonomy and drive their own economic and social mobility.
Our systems change strategy is three-pronged: We work with individuals, families, funders, governments and community partners to:
- Invest unrestricted cash in families and individuals with limited incomes
- Amplify stories that tell the true lived experiences of people with financial hardship and financially under-resourced communities
- Rally for state and local policies and practices that support and accelerate socioeconomic mobility
The strategy is grounded in our strength-based approach of community, capital and choice, which honors people’s initiatives, abilities and self-determination.

The Position
The Partnership Manager (PM) will play an integral role, alongside the Partnership Director, in cultivating and managing philanthropic and government relationships, with the ultimate goal of growing investments in UpTogether’s community platform and in UpTogether’s focus communities (specific to region, income level, racial/ethnic demographics, and other characteristics based on the specific partnership).
This role will report to and support the Partnership Director in project managing the regional portfolio of partners and implementing funds (how UpTogether refers to ongoing payments to specific communities), as well as philanthropic and government partner relationships, in the region. Simultaneously, the PM will help implement regional strategy in concert with UpTogether’s national strategy.
This role will be part of UpTogether’s Partnerships and Revenue Team. The PM will work directly with the Partnership Director and another Partnership Manager as part of a growing team of Partnership Directors, Partnership Managers, and Partnership Coordinators that make up the Partnerships and Revenue Team.
The Partnership Manager will have at least four years of experience in development or project management. The Director works remotely and from home across time zones, and is disciplined, flexible, creative, inspirational, and supportive. This is a remote position (Pacific Time Zone preferred), so a solid internet connection and functional work environment are required. Some travel (10% of your time) will be required for this position.
Primary Responsibilities
Revenue Generation
- Build, manage and cultivate pipeline for philanthropic partnerships, high net worth individuals (HNWI) and government
- Conduct landscape analysis for philanthropy, corporate and HNWI
- Manage HNWI giving program
- Lead proposal writing, including but not limited to LOIs, grants, applications, etc.
- Manage deliverables, deadlines, grant and financial reporting
- Manage the contract and grant agreement process with funders
- In collaboration with the Partnership Director, secure renewal agreements for each philanthropic, HNWI, and corporate funding partner with an eye to multi-year contracts and increasing investment dollars
Project Management & Implementation
- Manage the implementation of the UpTogether funds adhering to protocols to ensure smooth fund operations including enrollment, payment and coordinating and collaborating with other UpTogether teams and external funding and community partners
- Provide technical assistance to partners to assist in determining specific parameters of funds (e.g. direct investment amount per distribution, cadence of investment opportunity per member, geographic area, etc.).
- Once funds have been launched, lead grant and financial reporting to partners on an agreed-upon schedule. Serve as the first point-of-contact in all day-to-day matters, drawing upon organizational resources to satisfy requests as appropriate.
- Serve as the point of contact to ensure coordination of development and partnership operations/needs with relevant staff, including the Finance Department, Member Communications, Engineering and others as needed
- Maintain partner information using Salesforce, a tool used across multiple verticals at UpTogether to cultivate fund partnerships, donors, track UpTogether Funds, and provide donor records and insights
- Managing the day-to-day details and work flow
- Maintain records of partner transactions using Salesforce.
Movement building
- Manage regional communications with philanthropic, governmental, and individual funders as well as other key stakeholders (i.e., analytic trends, insights, findings; significant happenings to report; member and partner stories)
- Supports Partnership Director at external meetings, press conferences, conferences, regional events, etc
Strategy
- Support Partnership Director in implementing partnerships that advance the organizational strategies to support, sustain, and grow adoption of UpTogether’s strength-based approach
- In partnership with the Senior Directors, identify, prioritize, and cultivate relationships with values-aligned key stakeholders (e.g., thought leaders and institutions) to advance SBA and creating leads for future partnerships or connections
- Uphold and advance UpTogether’s Mission, Vision, and Values
Qualifications & Skills
- A minimum of three years of experience with/exposure to a wide range of fundraising and diversity of donors inclusive of philanthropic, corporate, private, high net worth individuals (HNWI), and/or government is preferred
- Experience managing grants and/or gifts of over six-figures
- At least one year of experience managing government contracts
- Experience with project management and complex implementation.
- Superb writing ability. Demonstrated experiencing crafting multi million dollar proposals, reports, policy briefs and other written documents.
- Clear and transparent communication. Ability to address internal and external needs in a timely manner; setting clear expectations and boundaries.
- Resourcefulness. Ability to confidently work cross-departmentally, proactively find information and self-teach as needed.
- Familiarity and comfort working with qualitative and quantitative data. Ability to comfortably work with and interpret data.
- Familiarity and comfort working on administrative-level tasks (detail), project management-level tasks, and high-level strategic planning.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Familiarity with Salesforce and financial documents, including budgets.
Compensation
This is a full-time position with a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision, 401(k), and vacation. Salary range is $62,000–$84,000.
